Size of Park: 94 acres, 82 sites. Mariposa is Spanish for butterfly. The name was chosen to create the acronym CAMP! Mowing time: about 8 hours/week.

Size of Pond: 1¼ acres - contains large mouth bass, calico bass, perch, and sunfish (blue gills and pumpkin seeds) for catch’n’release fishing, plus 6 grass carp - often compared to the Loch Ness monster by wide-eyed children!

Five butterfly gardens planted with butterfly weed, butterfly bush, coreopsis, hollyhocks, sweet william, impatiens, bee balm, purple coneflower, and cosmos, attract lots of butterflies: monarchs, white admirals, fritillaries, swallowtails, cabbage whites, sulphurs, and also hummingbirds!

Birds sighted in the park July '02 by members of the Allegany County Bird Club: great blue heron, turkey vulture, Canada goose, mallard, bufflehead, red-tailed hawk, red-shouldered hawk, ruffed grouse, wild turkey, killdeer, ring-billed gull, mourning dove, great horned owl, common nighthawk, chimney swift, ruby-throated hummingbird, yellow-bellied sapsucker, downy woodpecker, hairy woodpecker, pileated woodpecker, eastern phoebe, tufted titmouse, ovenbird, scarlet tanager, indigo bunting, red-winged blackbird, Baltimore oriole, goldfinch, brown thrasher, yellow-rumped warbler...and many, many more!

Trees in the park include larch, hickory, oak, beech, maple, elm, red pine, white pine, cherry, etc.

Highly rated by and listed in the following national directories: Woodall's, Trailer Life, Wheeler's, and Frommers Best RV and Tent Campgrounds (a very selective guide which awarded Mariposa a Best Rural Setting award.). Also well affiliated: member of Campground Owners of New York (CONY), National Association of RV Parks and Campgrounds (ARVC), Northeast Campground Association, Inc., National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), Fillmore Area Business Association.


WHAT MAKES MARIPOSA SPECIAL? What is there to do?? Sites are large, some wooded, some open, grassy sites with full hook-ups; 4 pull-thrus; 7 with 50 amp service; private tent sites; 2 cabins; 2 RVs. Lodge has heated indoor pool (open Memorial Day to Labor Day), ping pong, pool table, puzzles, rainy day board games, Thomas the Train set, doll house and croquet court. The park includes a romantic gazebo; horseshoe pits; sand volleyball court (for badminton, too); tetherball; basketball court; play areas with swings, sandboxes, slide; wagon rides; Saturday afternoon Art Cart (crafts); special events: ice cream socials, corn roasts, watermelon fests; and more! And YES!! our bath houses (specially decorated with murals painted by Houghton Academy students) have flush toilets, hot and cold running water, and showers.
